April 25, Sergey Kuryokhin Centre for Contemporary Art opens the exhibition of Contemporary Art Award nominees.
Established in 2009, the Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award is one of Russia’s most prestigious independent art awards. This year CYLAND MediaArtLab founder Anna Frants’ installation series “Explosion of a Can of Condensed Milk After Water Has Evaporated” have been nominated for the Best Media Object. The competition also includes many CYLAND artists and collaborators: Alexander Shishkin-Hokusai, Ludmila Belova, Dmitry Kawarga, Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov, among others.
CYLAND’s efforts in strengthening cultural exchange among innovators on the Art & Tech frontier were noted by the Modern Art Award committee with the 10th CYFEST entering the Best Curatorial Project competition.
One of the targets of Sergey Kuryokhin Award is to find and support promising artists, curators and musicians, to raise the status of contemporary art and to integrate it in the international cultural life. Sergey Kuryokhin Award is specifically focused on the principles of the «Popular Mechanics»: provocation, performance, improvisation and unexpectedness. Sergey Kuryokhin Award commemorates the synthesis of various forms of art, the search for new meanings and the revolutionary courage – the only kind that can change the world.
