On August 9, 2016 CYLAND MediaArtLab together with the NCCA Saint Peteresburg hosted an artist talk with Pim Zwier at the White Hall of the TAIGA Space. Dutch film director and media artist Pim Zwier talked about his art and current video project “Three Dimensions of Time” that he has been working on at the NCCA Art Residence in Kronstadt.
The project will be a short film, in which the artist will use and investigate the technology of color separation, which was once used by the Russian photographer, chemist and inventor Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky to produce color photographs. Each scene of the film will be shot from the same position at three different moments of time. Three shots with filters (red, green and blue), combined together, form natural colors in all motionless elements of a picture. Simultaneously transitory elements – people, animals, machines – move through these scenes in deviant colors, leaving only a transparent trace, as if they are memories or ghosts.
Pim Zwier is a film maker and media artist. Graduated from Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. His works balance between documentaries, experimental film and video-art. Zwier’s films and video installations were shown at different international festivals, exhibitions, and on television. Zwier was a member of Filmbank, a Dutch distributor of experimental film, also curated various film programs and was a jury member at several international film festivals.
In 2015 CYLAND MediaArtLab team has introduced a course of lectures and workshops on art and technology at the TAIGA Space in St. Petersburg. Since then their popularity gave us confidence in providing an educational platform to share thoughts and gain experience from artists, critics, curators, coders, engineers and media activists. You can learn more about these activities at the dedicated page.
